What to know before you buy

Check your home plan first if your SIM is from the EU or EEA

Under the EU's "roam like at home" rules, a SIM from any EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway can use its domestic allowance in Croatia at no extra charge, subject to your operator's fair-use limit. If that's you, a travel eSIM may only make sense for extra data or if your allowance is small. Since 1 January 2026 the rules also cover Ukraine and Moldova.

Dalmatian island and ferry route connectivity

Croatia's extensive ferry networks and popular tourist islands (Hvar, Brač, Korčula, Vis) have robust coastal 4G coverage. However, open-sea passages between distant outer islands may experience temporary signal fading.

Summer tourist congestion on coastal networks

During peak summer months (July and August), mobile towers in popular historic centres like Dubrovnik's Old Town or Split can experience high network load during peak midday hours.

Tips for staying connected in Croatia

  • Download offline navigation maps for island road trips and ferry timetables before departing coastal harbours.
  • Enable data roaming on your travel eSIM profile as soon as you touch down at Zagreb (ZAG), Split (SPU), or Dubrovnik (DBV) airport.
  • Check whether your itinerary includes day excursions to nearby non-EU destinations such as Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina, as single-country Croatia eSIMs will not cover those borders.
