How to install and activate a travel eSIM
Install at home on Wi-Fi, switch it on when you land, and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only.

Installing a travel eSIM takes a few minutes. The key decisions are when to install and which line your phone uses for data.
Before you leave
- Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
- Buy the plan and keep the QR code or install link — on a second screen if possible, since you scan it with the phone you're installing on.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and install the eSIM. Label it (for example "Travel") so it's easy to pick out.
- Leave the travel eSIM line switched off if its validity starts on first connection and you're not travelling yet.
Check when your plan starts. Holafly says its plans start when the eSIM connects to a supported network at your destination; other providers may start the clock differently.
On iPhone
- Open Settings → Mobile Service (or Cellular) → Add eSIM, and scan the QR code or use the install link.
- When asked, choose your home line for calls and SMS and the travel line for mobile data.
- On arrival, open the travel line's settings and switch Data Roaming on.
On Android
- Open Settings → Network & internet (or Connections) → SIMs → Add eSIM / Download a SIM.
- Scan the QR code. Menu names vary by manufacturer.
- Set the travel eSIM as the mobile data SIM and switch roaming on for it when you land.
If it doesn't connect
- Confirm data roaming is on for the travel line, and mobile data is set to that line.
- Toggle airplane mode on and off to force a fresh network search.
- Check APN settings against the provider's instructions — some plans need one entered manually.
- Don't delete the eSIM to "reset" it: Holafly says an installed eSIM can't be reinstalled, and other providers may have the same limit.
