Regions
Europe
Most European trips cross a border. Before buying one eSIM per country, check whether you need one at all: if your home SIM is from an EU/EEA country, EU roaming rules let you use your domestic allowance across the EU and EEA at no extra charge, subject to fair use.
Asia
Connectivity rules vary more across Asia than anywhere else. Mainland China filters many foreign services; Hong Kong does not. India's local SIMs need identity checks. Thailand and Malaysia sell tourist SIMs at airports.
Middle East
Plans in this region are among the most expensive per day in our data, and some single-country eSIMs explicitly exclude neighbouring countries — Holafly's Saudi Arabia plan cannot be used in the UAE or Qatar.
North America
A USA and Mexico trip is common, but single-country plans do not always cross the border: Holafly says its Mexico eSIM cannot be used in the United States.
